Prov 4:20-27
- Guilt is one of the most destructive emotions that any human being can have. It is the perceived condition of being separated from God and of deserving condemnation.
- God is not the one who uses guilt, condemnation, and fear to discipline us or teach us. He sent the Holy Spirit is not God’s agent of guilt, condemnation and fear, but rather He is the comforter, consoler and friend.
- Freedom from guilt is at the very heart of God’s plan for man.
Through the work of Jesus we have been cleared of all debt and forgiven of all sin. God has guaranteed our release in and by the blood of Jesus.
1 Cor 1:8-9
And he guarantees right up to the end that you will be counted free from all sin and guilt on that day when he returns.
God will surely do this for you, for he always does just what he says, and he is the one who invited you into this wonderful friendship with his Son, even Christ our Lord.
Cleansed from a Guilty Conscience
Luke 10: 30 – 35
The work that Jesus did, the sacrifice that He made, and the price that He paid, was not just a down payment, and now we need to come up with the rest of the payment. No, it’s not something Jesus started that we need to finish. It is a completed work in which God through Jesus took the full responsibility for our redemption.
“Watch what God does, and then you do it, like children who learn proper behavior from their parents. MOSTLY WHAT GOD DOES IS LOVE YOU. Keep company with Him and learn a life of love. Observe how Christ loved us. His love was not cautious but EXTRAVAGANT. He didn’t love in order to get something from us but to give everything of himself to us.”
The problem that many of us still have is that we have been under the impression and belief that we still have to feel guilty even after we have trusted Jesus to pay for our sin.
Heb 9:9-14
Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;
For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:
How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? (KJV)
One of the most awesome powers of the finished work of Christ is that at the cross God’s intent has always been to wash and cleans our consciences of all guilt.
The blood of Jesus not only cleansed us of all sin but also cleaned us from a guilty conscience.
Acts 24: 16
I Jn 3: 18 – 22
Heb 10: 21 – 23(Amp)
Jude 20-22
Heb 4: 12
“For the word of God is full of living power. It is sharper than the sharpest knife, cutting deep into our innermost thoughts and desires. It exposes us for what we really are.” The word of God does not expose all the bad things we do or have done, but exposes who we are NOW, based on the finished work of the cross of Jesus Christ. We are holy, perfectly accepted and loved by the Father. NOTHING can keep us away from this awesome love and life that has been given to us through the sacrifice of Jesus.
Heb 9: 14
“How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” (KJV)
The second part to this truth is as powerful as the first; this scripture clearly connects serving God, or worshiping God to having a clear conscience.
The Living Bible says: “Just think how much more surely the blood of Christ will transform our lives and hearts. His sacrifice frees us from the worry of having to obey the old rules and makes us want to serve the living God.”
No one can truly live for God, serve God or worship God with out being free from guilt, shame and a sense of indebtedness.
I think it should be made clear to all that God is not pleased neither is He adequately served if our motives are based in guilt, condemnation and shame. Guilt will always produce motives that are inferior and inadequate, and we cannot serve God if our motives for worshiping Him are inferior.
II Cor 10: 5-6 “Our battle is to break down every deceptive argument and every imposing defence that men erect against the true knowledge of God. We fight to capture every thought until it acknowledges the authority of Christ.” (JB Phillips)
We need to get rid of every thought and argument that does not line up with or recognize the work of Jesus Christ on the cross. We need to take every thought to the COMPLETED work of the cross (our total acceptance and perfection based on Jesus alone), and if it does not line up with that, cast it down or away. Do not let thoughts that rob you of your true sonship remain in your heart and mind. Right now you are perfectly acceptable and righteous in Christ Jesus. No other work remains but to accept what is already yours.
Do not allow guilt and condemnation to steal away your rightful inheritance. You are HERE and NOW totally FREE from ALL guilt and condemnation regardless of what is going on in your life. Jesus alone is your salvation and freedom.
